On a trip past York this week I got to thinking about Dick Turpin !
Doris Clare Zinkeisen was a Scottish theatrical stage and costume designer, painter, commercial artist and writer. She was best known for her work in theatrical design.
This self portrait shows great artistic talent and embodies the spirit of the upper classes in the 1920s, somewhat at odds with yesterday’s poster.
She also did some wonderful railway posters, take this example
I sold a trimmed version of this to an American last year who was very enthusiastic about Doris’s work
She also had a sister who designed in a less classical mould, that may take me to London Transport tomorrow …. or should I wait a while ?
