Exactly 40 years ago on 5 September 1977, NASA launched twin spacecrafts ‘Voyager 1’ and ‘Voyager 2’ into outer space.
The duo shuttles have been hard at work since, providing groundbreaking information on Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, and Uranus. They have exited the solar system altogether—making them the most well-travelled human-made objects ever.
The ‘Voyagers’ will now wander the universe infinitely as ambassadors for Earth. Each spacecraft contains a special message for any passing extraterrestrials: a gold-plated record full of sounds from this planet.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the spacecrafts’ amazing journey, NASA has created three beautiful 70s-themed posters and two ‘Voyager’ infographics that are free for all to download.
