I often drive past the Raleigh factory just outside Nottingham on the way to that newly created leisure activity : shopping at Ikea.
I can’t complain (too much) as my wife : Suz is Swedish and she needs to stock up on delicacies from time to time.
I am not sure of the benefit of being ‘all steel’ as it probably means that the bike weighs a lot, however it was the strapline for around 40 years and proved very successful.
At its peak Raleigh was a huge exporter worldwide and had a significant presence in the American market
See here for an interesting restoration article :
And of course a couple of posters from both ends of the ‘all steel ‘ period at Raleigh
Superb posters. Big fan of Raleigh. I have lots of ads of the BMX Burner range from the 80s – a classic BMX model. https://thevintagetoyadvertiser.org/2011/04/21/b-is-for-bmx/
My personal favourite is the Chopper. Also a shout out to the electronic Vektar.
Hi
Yes. I am old enough to remember the chopper bit was never cool enough to own one.
I was going to cover the chopper next. If you have some nice ads send them over.
Cheers P
Sadly I don’t have any Chopper ads yet. Remember me though if you ever need Raleigh Burner ads!
